Influenza is characterized by an infection which develops mainly in the respiratory system. Mainly, those who have influenza experience fever, sore throat and headaches, among many other possible symptoms. These symptoms should pass if the influenza is properly taken care of with available treatment. Sometimes the flu can remain with you for weeks. An exhausting experience, influenza effects many people and can lead to pneumonia if it is untreated. There is a vaccine available to those who would like to receive it, in order to prevent the virus from affecting them. The vaccine’s effectiveness will vary from person to person but it is mainly effective in prevention of influenza. In addition, the influenza vaccine must be taken each year for proper prevention. The reason for this is because the virus that causes people to get influenza is always changing or mutating and as such, the vaccine needs to adapt to those changes in order to keep up the prevention of the symptoms. Prevention plays an important role when it comes to avoiding the miserable experience of the flu. Influenza is a tiring and laboring experience for your body and you can follow some basic guidelines for prevention of this ordeal. Here are some basic tips to follow for the prevention of influenza:

Lyme
Lyme Disease can affect any number of parts in the body with the bacterium that causes this disease. The bacteria is called spirochete. One of the main ways in which Lyme Disease is produced is via ticks. Some ticks will have this bacteria in their bodies. When the tick goes to bite an animal or human, they are transferring this bacteria into the unsuspecting victim. As a result, the bacteria will cause damage to any number of parts in the body such as the heart, skin, nervous system and the joints in the body. The disease can be managed with medicine. Medicine is used to combat the devastating side affects this bacteria will have on the body. Lyme disease takes its toll on its victims and the medicine produced by pharmaceutical companies in collaboration with doctors works to revers those negative effects. If you think that you may have Lyme Disease or you have recently received a bit from a tick, you should take a visit to the doctor. Getting tested to see if you have Lyme disease is a good precaution when it comes to a tick bite. If you do in fact have Lyme disease a doctor will be able to prescribe you with the right medicine to deal with the disease. Here is a list of medicine that a doctor may give you to manage Lyme disease and combat its harmful effects on your body.
Doxycycline- This is a medicine whose main goal is to break down the protein production in the bacteria itself, to prevent it from causing your body any harm. Doctors usually prescribe this antibiotic when Lyme Disease is caught in its early stages.
Amoxicillin- This medicine stops the bacteria from dividing and multiplying in number. Another form antibiotic this medicine will also work against the bacteria in the favor of your body.
These two drugs are used in the early stages of Lyme disease and can be taken in a pill form. When Lyme disease has developed over time, it can begin to affect the nervous system and joints. When this happens, doctors may prescribe Rocephin, which is injected into the body. This medicine helps with the effects the bacteria will have on the nervous system. In addition, the joints of a person with this disease can become affected. Joints may begin to swell up and can cause a lot of pain and discomfort for the person. Medicine will be prescribed in order to help cope and manage these symptoms as well. An anti-inflammatory drugs would help the joint issues in this instance. With all these options for treatment, Lyme disease is very manageable. However knowing that ticks spread this disease should increase your awareness and change your behavior when traveling outdoors. To protect against ticks, when you go outside, wear clothes that will protect your skin from a ticks penetration. If you wear a hat you also decrease the chances of tick becoming embedded in your scalp. These are only a few ways to be proactive when it comes to Lyme disease prevention.

Hepatitis
Your liver, the largest organ inside your body enables you to fight infection and removes chemicals or toxins from the system. However there are several complications that can arise when the liver is affected with any form of hepatitis. The liver gives your body some of the energy that it needs and its function is vital to your life. Hepatitis is a disease that will cause this organ to become inflamed, only one of the many complications that may be the result of having this disease. The swelling of the liver affects its ability to function properly in order to carry out its designated bodily tasks. The liver is essential to your health because of the role it plays in your body’s daily functioning. Hepatitis is a disease that comes in several different forms and affects the liver negatively, making it suffer from infection and possibly scarring it for life along with several other serious complications. Hepatitis can be infectious or non-infectious in nature. Someone who is suffering from a problem with their immune system can ultimately develop a form of hepatitis as one of the complications. There are several other ways non-infectious hepatitis can be developed such as metabolism issue or a genetic problem that is present since birth. Complications can arise from any number of areas in the body because of the effects of hepatitis. There are several different types of hepatitis which are listed below.
Hepatitis A-This type is caused by a virus. That virus can be present in food, water or other individuals. The virus can be contracted by eating food or drinking water that contains the Hep A virus. Also if you engage in any oral sexual intercourse with a person who has the virus, you will most likely contract it as well.
Hepatitis B-This is also another type cause by a virus. It can be transmitted in a variety of ways and the complications can be severe and difficult to treat. Those suffering from complications from this type may have contracted it through sex, needles that are not clean, and even if you are bitten by someone who has the virus.
Hepatitis C- Complications resulting from this type are usually caused by contact with blood of someone who already has the virus.
There are also three other types, D, E, G and X. If you already have type B, type D is easily contracted. Like the other types, complications resulting from this type also include inflammation of the liver. Type E can be from merely drinking some water that contains the virus, while type G rarely shows complications at all. There is also type X. This type has not be pinned to any particular virus that the other types are from. This type cause complications from an unknown source or virus. Hepatitis is a dangerous disease and the treatment options are very minimal. For some people with certain types, you may be able to recover on your own. Your body somehow will overcome the virus, while others will suffer with the complications of this virus for the rest of their lives.

Diabetes
Diabetes is a disease that is characterized by high levels of sugar present in the blood. Diabetes disrupts the normal function of your metabolism and disables your ability to properly function and break down foods that your have consumed. People with diabetes are unable to remove the sugar build up in their blood because of a lack of a specific hormone cause by the presence of this disorder. Insulin, the hormone needed to remove the sugar and get it to your cells is not in supply. With only a small amount or no insulin available the body is unable to unclog the blood of sugar. Sugar builds up in the blood causing a host of other health issues. If you think that you have diabetes, testing can be done to see what, if any type you may have of this life long disease. Dealing with this disease can be very manageable but you need to get testing done if you experience any of the symptoms that are associated with this disease. A doctor will be able to help you develop a way to keep track of your insulin levels and there are a number of medical products available to help accomplish this as well, once testing is conducted. This who are diagnosed with diabetes will go through many rounds of testing, as they will always need to monitor the amount of insulin in their body. The body stops being able to regulate the insulin when one has diabetes and the testing enables the person to understand what their body needs or is lacking.
There are three main types of Diabetes:
1.) Type I- This type is a result of the body working against itself. The immune system of a person with Type I diabetes will fight their own body, attacking its insulin producing cells. Without insulin a person is unable to unclog their blood and they can die. Type I diabetes is very serious and those who have it should be testing their insulin levels consistently throughout the day and replacing the insulin via injection. Testing for this type is essential to survival.
2.) Type II- This type of diabetes is very common. Out of the three types of diabetes, this type is actually occurs the most frequently. Testing can also be done to see if this is the type you have. In contrast to type one, this type actually does provide the body with insulin. The bodily functions associated with making insulin are still in proper working order. However the problem in this case is that the body resists the insulin itself. The insulin is not able to be used for the good of the body, causing health risks.
3.) Gestational. This type of diabetes is developed during a woman’s pregnancy. Testing can be done to make sure that if you are pregnant the symptoms you are experiencing are not cause by this type of diabetes. Testing should be conducted to see if a woman has this type because often there will be no signs of it during the pregnancy. However the body will still be lacking the proper amounts of insulin which will affect healthy function of the body during the pregnancy.

Cystic Fibrosis
Considering the amount of genetic information that is passed from parent to child during conception and the ensuing pregnancy, it is no wonder that certain diseases that a parent may have will pass to their offspring. The genetic factor plays an important role not only in what your children will look like but what their health condition will be based on due to the genetic link between parent and child. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease that is passed from parent to child. It affects the human secretory glands. These glands are used to function when it comes to sweating and creating mucous. The genetic factor in this disease causes children to develop Cystic Fibrosis. Both parents of a child with cystic fibrosis will pass a dysfunctional CF gene which will cause the disease to develop. The glands will overly produce sweat and cause a mucus build up in the lungs and even in some of the other organs of the body. There are two ways to test to see if your child has developed this genetic disease. In addition your own genetic information can be analyzed in a test to see if you carry a faulty CF gene, before you decide to have children. Here are the two tests that can be taken to determine whether or not you have this genetic disease:
1.) Sweat test. This test is conducted because when someone has Cystic Fibrosis the overactive secretory glands will produce a larger and saltier amount of sweat. The test is designed to stimulate the glands in order to measure sweat and its salt content. If the salt content is high enough and the amount is high as well, you may have Cystic fibrosis. This is a simple test that will provide almost immediate results, so it is used more often when it comes to helping doctors diagnose this genetic disease.
2) Genetic Test. The genetic test is conducted by collecting a tissue or blood sample. This sample is then sent to a lab for testing to find out if the faulty Cystic Fibrosis gene can be detected from the genetic material in the sample.
There is no cure for cystic fibrosis but there are ways to manage this disease. First, those with this disease can maintain a healthy diet of foods that will help them with their needs. Those who have CF need to develop a diet of foods that will be able to help them manage their overall health while fighting this disease. There are also several different drugs offered to help deal with Cystic Fibrosis, in addition to various therapies that have been developed to help CF patients cope and live a more healthy and pain free lifestyle. The best way to deal with Cystic Fibrosis once you have been diagnosed is to follow the care and advice that your physician provides you with. There are also a number of facilities that are designed to help those with Cystic Fibrosis monitor and improve their symptoms in order to function better and improve overall health.

Prostate Cancer
If you find out that you have cancer of any kind your initial reaction would be to find out treatment options immediately. This is not the case for everyone, especially if the type of cancer is very difficult to detect and the treatment options cause you further harm. When it comes to prostate cancer you may not know you even have it and unfortunately there is no general screening test for it. To find out if you have prostate cancer and if you will need treatment you need to visit a doctor who will conduct an examination. Prostate cancer affects only men and develops in the male sex gland called the prostate gland. Cancer causes the cells in the prostate to grow abnormally and out of control. This is a very common cancer and often develops slowly over a lengthy period of time. Since prostate cancer is not easy to diagnose or find out about the treatment is not always taken by individuals who have prostate cancer. The side affects associated with treatment of this disease often make the patients opt not to receive any number of treatment options. Here are some of the possible treatments offered to those with prostate cancer and some of the side affects that these treatments may induce.
Surgery- There are several different types of surgeries that are designed to remove the cancer. The risk is high in these types of surgeries and there is no guarantee that the result will be entirely positive. Surgery is very expensive and is not necessary for every patient with Prostate cancer. This treatment should be discussed thoroughly and it may be a good idea to get a second opinion if your doctor suggests that you will need surgery for your prostate cancer.
Cryosurgery-Another treatment that is similar to surgery is cryosurgery. This is simply surgery that utilizes medical technology that will freeze the cancerous cells. This type of treatment is offered for several other types of cancer as well.
Hormone Therapy-This will work to treat the cancer by attempting to balance the hormones in one’s system.
Radiation Therapy-Radiation will work to kill the cancerous cells, but it has some negative side affects.
Chemotherapy-A very harsh therapy of chemicals that are bombarded into the cancerous site, chemotherapy will work to kill the cancerous cells but may take out healthy cells along its destructive path.
Pain Killers-This is a treatment option that will only help manage the pain associated with prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer, like any other cancer is a dangerous disease. Although it may be present and never exhibit harmful affects in some men, for others this can become a painful and exhausting uphill battle. With the proper treatment and early detection, this cancer may be manageable. Take the time to have more than one doctor assess your health situation. You may not need surgery and the choice is yours when it comes to how you want to proceed with the management of your disease. The cause of this disease has not been identified yet.

Ovarian Cancer
A cancer that is specific to women is Ovarian cancer. This is cancer that is located in the reproductive organs of the female body. Usually this type of cancer will develop into a tumor. The cancerous cells that spread to the ovaries, one or both, will clump together and form a tumor. If this tumor is caught early on the chances of removing all of the cancer are still high and the survival rate of those diagnosed with an ovarian cancer tumor are higher. If you have a tumor and it has been developing for quite some time undetected by your doctors the tumor may have spread the ovarian cancer throughout your body. beginning with your ovaries. Women who have a tumor because of ovarian cancer often have their ovaries removed, preventing the cancer from spreading to the rest of their body. However the result can be devastating. A tumor that develops in the ovaries of a woman can be classified into three categories.
1.)Stromal. This type of ovarian cancer tumor is named for its placement and function. The tumor develops from tissue that surrounds the ovary. This type is usually very treatable if it is detected early on. The chances of survival are higher if it is caught early and treated right away.
2.) Epithelial. This forms from the tissue that makes up the ovary on the surface. This is one of the most common types that occur with ovarian cancer. Most of the time, these tumors are found to be benign in nature. This means that the tumor is not negatively influencing or changing the body.
3.)Germ Cell. Ovarian cancer tumors develop from the cells and tissue that produce the eggs. There are several different types of germ cell tumors and most are usually benign in nature. If it is considered malignant it may be life threatening. The same treatment applies and removal of the tumor is usually one of the top choices for treatment followed by several rounds of chemotherapy.
With any cancer, it is best to try and catch it early in its stages of development. However this is not always the case and not always possible. Ovarian cancer is hard to detect and there is no set general screening test for it. The lack of screening for ovarian cancer makes it difficult to prevent and there are several other factors that may contribute to its cause and development. Age, health and genetics play a role in the risk factor development of this type of cancer. If you have a family member or you have experienced another type of cancer you are at a higher level of risk to get this cancer. If you have not had children and you are older than 40, you also have a higher risk of getting this disease. There are some ways to help prevent this cancer and to manage it once it is discovered. Some doctors recommend the use of oral contraception since it has shown the ability to lower the risk of ovarian cancer.

cancer
Cancer comes in many different forms and almost anyone could get it. It is a disease that has many different types with varying speeds of growth and intensity. Some cancer can be fast spreading while others will take years to develop. It is characterized by the overgrowth of cells, or development of tumors. Abnormal cells or cancer cells will begin to grow rapidly and out of control, taking over the healthy cells that remain and struggle to survive. These abnormal or cancer cells can clump together which would cause a tumor to develop. If a tumor is diagnosed as malignant it will most likely have to be removed. This is because cancer cells spread and divide rapidly and would quickly bring unhealthy cells to other parts of the body surrounding the original tumor. Although cancer claims the lives of so many people every day there are ways to treat it. Treatment of cancer varies from person to person and the treatment of cancer should be implemented right away when the disease is discovered. Here is a list of possible treatment of this disease and the situations surrounding the treatment of this disease.
Treatment of Cancer:
The first step in the treatment of cancer is the diagnosis. Before deciding on the treatment of your cancer, your doctor and possibly a second doctor, should provide you with an accurate diagnosis of the type and seriousness of your cancer. After the diagnosis your doctor should provide you with choices on treatment of your cancer. The treatment of cancer can include any number of combinations of the following options:
1.) Chemotherapy. This is used in the treatment of many cancers and is probably the most well known treatment of this disease available today. It is a harsh set of drugs that are given during a set number of rounds depending on the seriousness of the cancer that you have. The treatment of cancer using chemotherapy can be long and exhausting. It depletes your health because it kills both the unhealthy cells and some of your body’s healthy cells. This treatment has negative health side affects and may cause you to lose some or all of your hair.
2.)Radiation. This is a treatment that uses radiant technology to kill unhealthy cells. This treatment also has negative side affects but it can be extremely helpful in treating and managing this diseases.
3.)Surgery. This is usually an option that is made available to those who have tumors. Removal of a tumor is intended to hopefully prevent the further spreading and growth of unhealthy cells.
These treatments are all used to deal with this disease but since there is no cure yet for this terrible disease, these treatments serve to help those who are struggling with the disease. With current and future research dedicated to this disease, a cure may be eventually possible. In the mean time, if these treatments do not work, either a combination of them will be used or a patient can look into clinical trials with new drugs to see if those will help or improve their condition at all.

Breast Cancer
Cancer affects nearly every part of the human body, but how can you tell when and where you will get it, if you even do? When it comes to breast cancer, prevention and awareness are key. Going to the doctor for routine examinations will enable you to keep way ahead of cancer. If you are being proactive and discover that you have developed breast cancer then you will have already increased your chances of managing the cancer and ultimately beating the cancer. Like many other cancers, breast cancer often begins with a small lump on the breast tissue. Treatment for this lump or tumor depends on whether or not the doctor determines if it is benign or malignant. If the lump is malignant then breast cancer is present in the tissue and the treatment will be aggressive. In order to deal with this type of cancer there are several treatment options available. The treatment for breast cancer is very similar to that of other cancers.
Radiation Therapy- Some doctors and hospitals will provide breast cancer patients with the option for radiation treatment. Radiation therapy is designed to kill cancerous cells through use of radiation technology. There are side effects to radiation therapy and it may not be successful in every case or for every breast cancer patient.
Chemotherapy- Chemotherapy is a harsh but often effective treatment in the battle against cancer. Breast cancer patients are given rounds of chemotherapy to destroy the cancerous tumor or tumors. Chemotherapy also has negative side affects that include but are not limited to hair loss and vomiting. These drugs will cause harm to even the healthy parts of your body while they attempt to rid your body of cancerous cells.
Tumor Removal- To prevent cancer from spreading further and affecting other parts of the body, sometimes the treatment option will be to conduct surgery to remove the tumor. Depending on the stage of the cancer, size of the tumor and health of the patient, all or part of the breast may be removed during this surgery.
Hormonal Therapy-This treatment is an alternative to those listed above. With this treatment, hormones are used to manipulate cell growth to induce growth of healthy breast cells and healthy breast tissue.
Biological Therapy-Another form of alternative treatment that is relatively new is Biological therapy. These drugs also work to deplete cancer cells but they try to predict what the cancer cells will do and prevent them from growing back.
Treatment for breast cancer is case based. Doctors will often recommend a variety of these treatments to their patients. When combining these treatment options, doctors are able to offer the best medical course of treatment for their patients, in order for them to get healthy. As always prevention and proactive behavior is a good idea. If breast cancer runs in your family, your chances are higher to get it, so have a doctor routinely examine you. Going for routine checkups and examines will also increase the chances of discovering cancer right away, which will help with the treatment plan, making it more effective.

Retinoblastoma
Retinoblastoma is a cancer that develops in young children, with a central location on the eye or eyes. Retinoblastoma is a tumor that develops in young children and it appears in one eye, or the other or sometimes both eyes. This is a dangerous tumor that can affect a child’s vision and can even spread, creating a tumor in the brain as well. The appearance of the eye will have a white haze or white spots to distinguish this tumor. Doctors can usually diagnose children with this tumor relatively early on, but depending on how far the tumor has spread the child may lose one or both of his or her eyes due to this retinoblastoma. There may be more than one tumor and in this case, more care should be placed on treating this problem. Although this is a fast spreading cancer there is a cure and many of those who had retinoblastoma have been cured and still have maintained proper function of their eyesight. However there are two different types of retinoblastoma that can affect your child or children:
1.)Genetic Retinoblastoma-This type is passed from parent to child causing a tumor to develop in one or both of the eyes.
2.) Non-Hereditary Retinoblastoma-This type occurs randomly and there is no hereditary or genetic link to the tumor that a child develops.
Both of these types should be treated with the same fervor, since a tumor can spread very rapidly and cause permanent damage, including but not limited to blindness. No matter what the cause, hereditary or non-hereditary, retinoblastoma is still highly treatable and curable. In some very serious cases, a cure may not be possible. Like any other cancerous tumor, a retinoblastoma tumor, if undetected can spread and cause further damage to the body. The tumor can spread to the brain and bones which may be even harder to treat and nearly impossible to cure, depending on the extent of the spread and the length of time the tumor has been present. Since retinoblastoma is an extremely fast moving cancer, the best treatment for some patients may entail removing the entire eye. This way all of the cancer is completely removed and the tumor is no long in existence to spread or cause any further damage to the rest of the body.
A tumor in the eye is a very serious problem and if your child appears to have any of the symptoms associated with retinoblastoma, you should contact an ophthalmologist right away. An ophthalmologist will be able to help you determine whether or not your child has retinoblastoma and what caused it. You can take a test to figure out whether or not you carry the genetic material that causes this problem to prepare yourself when you decide to have children. If in fact a tumor is discovered, the doctor will be able to provide you with the best possible course of action to ensure your child’s health. Being prepared and always going for routine checkups is a proactive way to ensure that if your child develops retinoblastoma, then the ensuing tumor will be dealt with immediately.
